Stoker HMS 'Bittern' Born 21 September 1891 at Adelaide, SA Son of George BULLOCK and Louisa Ann nee WARMONG Of Hilton, SA Educated Richmond Primary School Entered the Royal Navy in 1912 After serving for some time on the West Indies Station, he was wounded while at Zanzibar. After three months in hospital he was transferred to HMS Bittern which was sunk with all hands on April 4, 1918. He was the fourth son of Mr and Mrs. George Bullock. Artificer-Engineer Royal Navy Iris II Awarded Distinguished Service Medal 'Enginner Officer of 'Iris II' The Commanding Officer of the 'Iris II' states that it was due to this Officer that 'Iris II' was kept going during the action under very heavy fire, and though holed several times succeeded in returning to Dover under her own steam. Mr. Edgar did invaluable work in the engine room and boiler room throughout the operation, and for a period of seventeen hours without rest. He showed great bravery when 'Iris II' was suffering under a very heavy fire by coming on to the upper deck and turning on the smoke apparatus with the aid of an Engine Room Artificer.'
