Age 15 and was 5'2" with a fresh complexion, light brown eyes and dark brown hair. Born at Melbourne. Son of Mrs. Harriett Fink, 'Murray House' Private Hospital, Scott Street, Dandenong. Awarded the 1914-1915 Star, British War Medal 1914-1918, and Allied Victory Medal. On the Buln Buln Honour Board. Also recorded in the Buln Buln State School Roll of Honour Book.

He was the son of James Hair and Selina W Salter.
Frederick enlisted in Australian Navy for seven years on 11 June 1912; service number 1675. He gave his next of kin as mother, Mrs Selina Davenport 24 Champ Street Coburg.
During Sept 1914 he took part in naval operations in German New Guinea, on board HMAS Protector.
From 1 July 1915 until 16 Oct 1917 he was on HMAS "Psyche".
He also served on "Australia", the battle cruiser.
He served until 14 July 1919 with the rank of Able Seaman & had assessments of "very good" character and "Superior" ability.
He married Christina M Cousins 13 Oct 1919 at Castlemaine.
They lived at Coburg.
He lived to 73 years.

Enlisted in Sydney, New South Wales on 7 January 1915 aged 18 years – signed up for a period of 5 years.
Occupation prior to enlistment: Carter.
Service was on various ships as follows -
HMAS Cerberus – 7 January 1915 until 30 June 1915
HMAS Psyche – 1 July 1915 until 16 October 1917
HMAS Cerbrus – 17 October 1917 until 12 November 1917
HMAS Psyche – 13 November 1917 until 3 December 1917
HMAS Penguin – 4 December 1917 until 15 December 1917
It appears that Rupert was released from the Navy so that he could join the AIF although there is a notation on his AIF record that he was listed as a deserter from HMAS Penguin.
Rupert enlisted in the AIF on 20 December 1917 in aged 21 years. Service No. 7744 - serving as a Private with the 34th Battalion and then the Australian General Base Depot.
